EQUATOR Network website launched


The EQUATOR Network (Enhancing the QUAlity and Transparency Of health Research) is a new quality improvement initiative that seeks to improve the quality and reliability of the health research literature by promoting transparent and accurate reporting through the use of reporting guidelines.

September  07 - Evidence-based Prevention Toolkit Launched

The Department of Health in England has just launched an evidence-based prevention tool-kit.  which is intended to provide a simplified prevention guide for practitioners. The Department of Health commissioned the British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry (BASCD) to develop the guide for primary dental care, for use by all the dental team within the surgery setting.

The CONSORT Statement is an evidence-based, minimum set of recommendations for reporting randomized controlled trials. The Oral Health Specialist Library along with the other specialist labries has migrated to the NHS National Library for Health . The Oral Health Specialist Library is being developed by a team at Cardiff University under guidance from a UK-wide steering group.

November 05- Cochrane Oral Health Group launches a revamped website. The   site has a new format and content, more resources  , links and a different site structure.


 

July 2005 - NICE  publishes guidance on HealOzone

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence has published guidance on the clinical effectiveness and cost effectiveness of HealOzone for the treatment of tooth decay (occlusal pit and fissure caries and root caries)

June  2005  - NICE Launches new Cancer Referral Guidance

New guidelines from NICE and   the National Collaborating Centre for Primary Care (NCC-PC) aim to reduce the variation in referral times from primary care to specialist investigation for people with suspected cancer.

 March 2005- New Centre for Evidence-based Dentistry website launched in Baltimore.

Derek Richards (Director of CEBD) speaking at the Evidence-based Dentistry Network Group meeting at the IADR meeting in Baltimore on 10th March launched the CEBD's new website. Working with the Oxford-based company Minervation the website has undergone a major restructuring and now provides clearer navigation with important new sections on How to Practice Evidence-based Dentistry and Conducting Research. In the future the website will be introducing a regular Newsletter and other opportunities for users to interact with the site.


 

July 2004 Evidence-based Dentistry Journal achieves Medline listing.

The Evidence-based Dentistry Journal which is published by Nature and has it Editorial base at the Centre for Evidence-based Dentistry is pleased to announce that it has been successful in it's submission for inclusion in Medline. The title was initially launched in November 1998 as supplement to the British Dental Journal becoming a stand-alone quarterly publication in 2000.


 

2003 -Virtual Centre for Improving Oral Health Launched

The virtual 'Centre for Improving Oral Health through Evidence-Based Dentistry' (vC-IOH) has been established by a unique non-competitive networking of four UK units that have a long history in the advocacy and use of evidence-based methods. The core groups are:
CEBD the Centre for Evidence-Based Dentistry (Oxford): The CEBD provides training and disseminates information via both a website and this, the most widely distributed evidence-based dental journal, Evidence-Based Dentistry.
COHG the Cochrane Oral Health Group (Manchester): The Oral Health Group of the Cochrane Collaboration is an international group that undertakes systematic reviews of literature, covering all randomised controlled trials of oral health.
DHSRU the Dental Health Services Research Unit (Dundee, Scotland): Members of the unit have been involved in the development of Evidence-based guidelines for the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network, the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (FGDP) and the National Institute of Clinical Excellence. DHSRU currently leads the development of the National Health Service's (NHS) Dental Clinical Care Pathways programme under the 'Options for Change' initiative in England.
WOHIU the Welsh Oral Health Information Unit (Cardiff, Wales): Members of the unit have been involved in several high-profile systematic reviews, most notably the York review of water fluoridation. Currently WOHIU are responsible for leading development of the National Electronic Library for Health Oral Health Specialist Library.
